The Wave | March 2026 Issue
Welcome to The Wave, CASLPO’s monthly e-newsletter for registrants! The Wave brings together all of the College's key updates into one easy-to-read format.
In This Issue:

Thank you to everyone who completed CASLPO’s recent survey on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in practice. Your feedback helped inform the development of CASLPO’s new guidance on the use of AI.
AI technologies are evolving quickly and are increasingly being explored across many areas of health care. CASLPO is committed to supporting registrants as they navigate these changes while maintaining safe, ethical, and responsible practice.
The AI guidance is now available on the CASLPO website. It outlines key considerations to help you evaluate the use of AI in your practice and aligns with approaches taken by other health regulators.
We will continue to engage with registrants as this area evolves. If you have questions, please contact CASLPO’s Practice Advice Team.

Help Shape CASLPO’s Definition of Patient Care and Related Work We invite you to take part in a short survey that will help inform updates to CASLPO’s Definition of Patient Care and Related Work Policy.
This policy plays a key role in determining whether registrants meet the minimum currency requirement of 750 hours of patient care or related work over a three-year period. As professional practice continues to evolve, we are reviewing how “patient care” and “related work” are defined to ensure they remain relevant and reflective of current practice.
Changes in service delivery models, practice settings, and professional roles mean that registrants are engaging in a broader and more diverse range of activities than ever before. We want to better understand these activities and to identify what should be included in the updated definitions.
Your feedback will inform discussions at the Registration Committee. The Board of Directors will review and approve any proposed changes.
Before completing the survey, we encourage you to review the current policy (see REG-07). Your input will help ensure the definitions are clear, practical, and aligned with today’s professional landscape.
If you have questions, please contact [email protected]. Thank you for taking the time to share your input.

We thank audiologist Kim Eskritt for her many years of dedicated service on the CASLPO Board of Directors. Kim represented District 3 from 2017 to 2026; Kim's final Board meeting was March 6, 2026.
Throughout her tenure, Kim played an active role in advancing CASLPO’s public protection mandate and supporting effective, transparent regulation. She was the Chair of the Discipline Committee (now the Ontario Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists Discipline Tribunal), the Patient Relations Committee and served as the Vice-Chair of the CASLPO Board, where she also contributed to the work of the Executive Committee. Kim has been a member of eight of the nine College committees. She most recently participated as a member of the Over-the-Counter Hearing Aids Task Force. Prior to being a Board member, Kim was a non-Board member on several committees from 2010 to 2017, bringing her experience to complex regulatory matters.
Kim approached her Board work with professionalism, integrity, and a clear focus on the public interest. She contributed thoughtful perspectives reflecting on her experience as a practicing clinician, asked important questions, and supported balanced decision-making during a time of change and growth for CASLPO.
We appreciate Kim’s leadership, commitment, and meaningful contributions over the past nine years. We thank her for her service and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.

The recording of our recent E-Forum on the new SLP Intervention Standards is now available on the CASLPO website here.
Last fall, CASLPO published the new SLP Intervention Standards [EN / FR]. These standards:
The E-Forum reviews key highlights and explains how the standards support safe, ethical, and high-quality care. You may count the review of this E-forum as a continuous learning activity credit (CLAC) towards an established learning goal in your CASLPO Self-Assessment Tool (SAT).
Public Health Ontario (PHO) has launched a new course: Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) for Health Care Workers. The course reflects learner feedback and evolving practice needs. It uses interactive, scenario-based learning and replaces the previous IPAC Core Competencies course. Topics include the chain of transmission, point-of-care risk assessment, hand hygiene, and steps to take when infection is suspected or confirmed. Each module takes 15–20 minutes to complete and qualifies for structured CPD credits.
PHO also offers a range of free IPAC resources to support onboarding, refresher training, and ongoing professional development. These courses can be accessed by creating a free PHO account here.
You may count the completion of these courses as continuous learning activity credits (CLAC) towards an established learning goal in your CASLPO Self-Assessment Tool (SAT).

CASLPO has developed new French-language resources to support mentors and mentees completing their Mentorship Self-Assessment Tool (MSAT) reports. If you would like to access these resources, please contact [email protected].
Providing resources in both official languages helps ensure that all participants in CASLPO’s Mentorship Program can fully engage in the mentorship process. Inclusive practices support informed decision-making and contribute to the delivery of high-quality health care across Ontario.
