5 Tips for Completing Your Annual Registration Renewal

The 2026 annual registration renewal is open from August 3 to 11:59 PM EDT on Thursday, October 1, 2026. Follow these five tips to make your renewal smooth and stress-free.

1.    Renew Early to Avoid a Late Fee

Start your renewal early to give yourself time to ask question and avoid last-minute stress. Log in to your Registrant Portal account and select "Your 2026 Renewal" to get started. If you renew after the deadline, a 20% late fee of $156 will apply.

2.    Check Your Professional Liability Insurance (PLI)

Make sure your PLI coverage is current and includes the following details:

If your employer provides PLI coverage, confirm that the policy covers you — either as an individual or part of a group.

3.    Not Renewing? Consider Resigning Instead

If you are retiring, moving, or changing professions, you can resign through the online renewal system or by emailing [email protected]. Check the Renewal FAQ (question #4 under “Change in Professional Status”) for step-by-step instructions.

Important: If you resign and later want to return to practice (and are not registered in another regulated Canadian province), you’ll need to reapply and meet current entry-to-practice requirements — this may include completing additional coursework or exams.

4.    Request a Change of Status to Return to Work

If you’re planning to return to work and need to change your registration status, your status won’t automatically update after you submit your renewal. The Registration Team must first review your request and confirm that you meet the requirements for a change of status.

To return to work at any time in September 2026, you must submit your renewal request to change status before September 1, 2026.

If you do not meet the requirements for the change requested, you will be notified and your application will be referred to the College’s Registration Committee for review. This review may take 3 to 4 months.

Reminder: You cannot work or hold yourself out in any way as an audiologist or speech-language pathologist in Ontario until your general certificate is reinstated.
