Join our E-Forum on New & Revised CASLPO Practice Standards

We are pleased to share that three CASLPO Practice Standards have now been published on our website:

New: Practice Standards for Speech-Language Pathology Intervention / Normes de pratique pour l’intervention en orthophonie

Revised: 

• Consent and Capacity Standards / Normes de consentement et de capacité 
• Documentation Standards / Normes de documentation

These standards were approved by CASLPO’s Board of Directors on September 19, 2025, and took effect on September 25, 2025. They set out the current minimum expectations for audiologists and speech-language pathologists practicing in Ontario. 

Your feedback played an important role in shaping these standards. Input from advisory working groups and consultation surveys with registrants and the public helped ensure that the standards are clear, practical, and supportive of safe, high-quality care. 

Highlights

• New SLP Intervention Standards: 
  • Combine and replace five existing standards: dysphagia, stuttering, assessment of children, assessment of adults, acquired cognitive communication.
  • Provide high-level principles that apply across all areas of SLP practice in Ontario.
  • Include an appendix with standards specific to dysphagia.
• Revised Consent and Capacity and Documentation Standards:
  • Continue to reflect the minimum expectations for all audiologists and speech-language pathologists in Ontario.
  • The guidance provided is based on the Records Regulation (documentation), Ontario’s Health Care Consent Act, and Personal Health Information Protection Act (consent). No changes have been made to these underlying rules.
