As part of CASLPO’s ongoing commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in regulation, we began collecting voluntary demographic data from registrants in 2022 during the annual renewal process. The goals of this initiative are to:
We understand that many of the questions asked are sensitive in nature. We therefore incorporated measures to ensure all responses are anonymous and are not linked to individual registrant profiles.
By analyzing this data, CASLPO can assess whether the composition of the registrant base reflects the demographics of Ontario’s population. This information helps guide strategies that support equitable access to care—such as exploring improvements to entry pathways for underrepresented groups and offering culturally responsive professional development. This work directly supports CASLPO’s mandate to ensure safe, effective, and inclusive care for all Ontarians.
As part of our commitment to transparency and continuous improvement, we are sharing the results provided by registrants. The charts below compare demographic trends from 2022 to 2024.
Please keep in mind that year-over-year comparisons should be interpreted with care. The number of registrants who responded to the survey varied each year, which affects how percentages reflect overall trends. Notably, there was a significant decline in participation from 2022 to 2024.
Additionally, a technical error in the 2023 data collection resulted in the loss or collapse of some responses. For consistency, we have omitted most of this data in the reported results with the exception of the question related to religious or spiritual practice/observance.
The insights gained from this data have already begun to shape CASLPO initiatives—such as inclusive updates to College application forms, the development of our DEI E-Forum series, and improvements in accessibility and accommodation policies.
We remain committed to ongoing data collection as part of our efforts to support inclusive, evidence-informed regulatory practices and encourage all registrants to take part in future demographic surveys. Your input is essential to helping us build a regulatory environment that supports a diverse, inclusive, and representative professional community that reflects the population of Ontario.
The following statistics provide a three-year comparative overview of the data collected between 2022-2024.
“Race” refers to the social construct of categorizing people based on physical characteristics and “Ethnicity” refers to the description of groups of people based on commonalities, e.g. language, geography, music, shared history. These concepts can frequently overlap, and so we have grouped race and ethnicity together.
Registrants were asked to identify their racial and/or ethnic identity.
