E-Forum Recording Available - Practice Standards for the Controlled Act of Prescribing Hearing Aids

Did you know that audiologists and physicians are the only regulated health providers permitted to prescribe hearing aids in Ontario? Prescribing hearing aids is a controlled act associated with patient risk of harm. The public relies on audiologists as trusted and regulated hearing healthcare providers with the knowledge, skill, judgement, and education to prescribe hearing aids. With recent changes, audiologists are working more closely with hearing instrument practitioners (HIPs) to provide patients with hearing aid prescriptions.

On August 14th, CASLPO hosted an E-Forum on this important topic. During the E-Forum we discussed requirements for audiologists when providing hearing aid prescriptions for patients and working with hearing instrument practitioners. And, earlier this year, the College shared FAQs, a prescription checklist, and form to help CASLPO's audiologists understand and meet the standards for prescribing hearing aids.
