Canadian Patient Safety Week: How Health Regulation Protects the Public

Every year, Canadian Patient Safety Week reminds us that everyone has a role to play in keeping patients safe. This national campaign, led by Healthcare Excellence Canada, encourages collaboration among health professionals, organizations, and the public to strengthen patient safety.

At its core, patient safety is about trusting that health providers have the knowledge, skill, and judgment to provide safe, ethical, and effective care. This trust is supported through health profession regulation, which plays a crucial role in protecting the public. Health profession regulators, like the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO), help to protect the public by setting rules and standards that all professionals must follow. During Canadian Patient Safety Week, we’re reminded that safety is everyone’s responsibility—from patients and families to health professionals and the organizations that support them.
