What is a speech-language pathologist?

Speech-language pathologists are concerned with the prevention, identification, assessment, treatment and (re)habilitation of communication and/or swallowing disorders in children and adults. Speech-language pathologists also provide education and counseling services for people experiencing communication and/or swallowing difficulties. They work closely with other professionals, sometimes as part of a multidisciplinary team, in providing a coordinated program of care.

Will I have to pay for speech-language pathology services?

It is best to inquire about fees for service when you book your first appointment with a speech-language pathologist. Some speech-language pathology services are funded by government programs or insurance policies, however, others require you to pay a fee for service. Speech-language pathologists are expected to provide clients with their schedule of fees at the outset and discuss which services will be provided to their clients.
